Okay as promised I’m giving you all the details to my room EVEN though it’s not 100% finished because I’m on the hunt for a new dresser. I will let you know some of the things I have bought are no longer available. To achieve any dream room on a financial budget requires time. Never fun. I’m 100% the type of person who gets an idea in their head and wants it to come to life right then and there… with my paycheck, that’s just not possible (who’s with me.) I was lucky enough to work at Anthropologie for one holiday season, so I got a lovely little discount at Anthro, Urban Outfitters and Free People. (boy do I miss that job!) A lot of my room has pieces form those stores which are outrageously priced items but beautiful for your home, so I think a few staple pieces from these stores are key! (that’s just me) You don’t always have to go with super expensive pieces though.. a lot of items I found at Amazon, Target, Wayfair & of course Hobby Lobby.
Number One: is Pick a theme and roll with it. My theme was more of a modern bohemian style. I wanted my room to be a comfortable space to relax. MAKE PINTEREST YOUR BEST FRIEND. Pin so many different ideas. For me, I had been continuously changing my room because there was always something about it I didn’t like. Now I’ve created a space I never want to leave.
Bedding & Throws
Number Two: always go with light wall colors and dark floors to contrast. Especially if you have a small room, it’ll make colors on your wall pop more and be a bright airy space. If you have a large room an accent wall with a dark color always looks good. I always had DARK walls in my room. (I have a small space) so it would make my room feel cold and drab like a dungeon. Use bright bedding pillows and wall accents to liven up the room!
Number Three: TIME. I don’t make a million dollars a month so for me, I’d pick up a piece every month. I’d make a list of objects, pillows, blankets, pictures I wanted, saved the links & would slowly purchase over time. All this stuff took me about two years to fully complete. I have champagne taste on a beer budget… at least that’s what my mom says. Having expensive taste is okay. Just take time to collect your pieces. SCAVENGE. I would never settle you have to be in love with the object, picture, pillow, whatever it is to put it in your space. If you don’t love an item you’ll end up wanting to replace it later on. I also saved money and built my own headboard which was not difficult at all! My favorite pieces in my room are the giant cow photo I found at Urban Outfitters and my bright, & the colorful rug I found at Wayfair. I think they make the room pop and draw all the right attention!
Wall Art & Decor
Number Four: Feature objects you already have/collect and put them on display. I LOVE vintage records. I saw this idea on Pinterest featuring your records in frames, and I fell in love! My 92-year-old Grandad kept all his old records in perfect condition and gave them to me. So putting them on display was a must & on the white walls they stand out! My hats being on display is a decorative touch as well! Keeping wide hats stored nicely is difficult especially if you have a lot of them like me. I use a nail… that’s it that’s my secret a nail for hanging my hats. I hung them above my dresser, and they look like a decorative piece and its also functional for storage. I also bought “fake” books that open up and are perfect for storage. I keep all my rings and Giving Keys in them.. remember storage can be pretty!
Number Five Tip: Set the mood. Candles, candles and more candles Above this I linked all of my favorite candle shops.
Anthropologie Blue Capri candles are just yummy. They’ve always been my favorite!
Whiskey Boat Goods is another one of my favorite candle companies ran by my sweet friend Morgan. They are a small shop located in Texas the sent I have in my room is “Texas Paradise” it mixes so well with my Anthro candles. This Christmas I gifted everyone “Coconut Cream Pie” & “Her Sunday Morning” these candles burn a long time, and everyone loved them! They are a perfect little gift, especially with the farmhouse mason jar packaging!
MJ Candle Co is another one of my favorite small shop candles companies. Another good friend of mine name Morgan runs this company based out of London! My favorite scent would have to be Pink Magnolia. Mixes well again with my Anthro candles! Another one of my favorite scents is Eucalyptus and Mint it’s like a fresh aromatherapy vibe! I also love the simple modern packaging pretty much goes with anything. The gift sets are unreal as well if you’re looking to try or gift many scents. Also if you are getting married MJ Candle CO makes custom Candles for wedding favors! Use my code: friskygypsy for 15% off any candle of your choice from MJ Candle Co.!
Tribe Kelley, they are just my favorite for everything. Their candles are really interesting because they have crystals at the bottom for once its burned out. I bought my candle last January and just burned it out recently. So I’m in need of a new one! I went to the Trade post in Nashville TN and got to smell each scent. I chose the moonstone scent but was debating on the Rose Quartz which will be my next purchase. Honestly any of the scents from all of the candle companies you can’t go wrong!
